Get a free Apple iPhone 17 or Air at T-Mobile

This is your "get a decent phone on the cheap" alert. Until the end of the day today (March 31), Amazon is discounting a wide range of products as part of its third annual Big Spring Sale. That includes some offers on unlocked smartphones, like the Google Pixel 9a and the Motorola Razr Ultra. (Now $500 off with 512 of storage, the latter is the subject of the biggest price cut we've spotted.)

As professional deal hunters, we want to mention that Amazon's smartphone deals aren't the absolute best offers anywhere. If you head to carriers like T-Mobile, you can get a free iPhone 17 or iPhone Air for new customers. (Yup, that's free as in zero dollars!) But the catch is that they require trade-ins and qualifying phone plans. Amazon's offers are still competitive because they don't have any strings attached — you can just buy your new phone outright.

From Samsung to Google, Apple, and Nothing, here are the best unlocked phone deals we've spotted on Amazon as the Big Spring Sale wraps up.

Why we like it

Have you been dying to switch to an iPhone but don't have an extra $1,000 to spare on a new iPhone 17? There's a better way. You can buy an unlocked iPhone 14 with 512 of storage direct from Amazon for under $500. It's a used model in "Renewed Premium" condition, which means it has at least 90 percent of its original battery life and lacks any cosmetic issues that are visible at close range. (It's protected under a one-year guarantee.) While you'll miss out on the newest Apple Intelligence features and cameras, you'll still get that sweet blue chat bubble your friends have been so annoying about.

Best unlocked Google Pixel phone deal

$439.99 at Amazon
$499 Save $59.01

Why we like it

When we reviewed the Google Pixel 9a last year, we called it "the budget smartphone to beat in 2025," and it's still a great option in 2026. (The Pixel 10a was very underwhelming.) This handset sports a 48MP wide camera, built-in Gemini AI tools, and a long battery life.

Why we like it

The Samsung Galaxy Z Flip7 FE brings back the era of flip phones in the best way. It's a compact, foldable phone with a 50MP camera and FlexMode functions that let you shoot hands-free without needing a tripod. And despite its size, it’s incredibly powerful, thanks to its strong processor and long-lasting battery.

Why we like it

Mashable's tech editor Timothy Werth says the Motorola Razr Ultra was the most underrated smartphone of 2025, and not just in the foldable category. During our testing, we found that this flagship foldable phone had an unbeatable battery that lasts over 24 hours, plus a surprisingly good camera array, a speedy Snapdragon 8 Elite processor, and a full suite of AI features. During the Big Spring Sale, you can pick up this trendy flip phone for a lot less than other premium foldables.

Why we like it

Okay, so this isn't exactly an unlocked phone deal, but it is one of the best offers you'll find on a new iPhone. New customers who switch to T-Mobile can get a new iPhone 17 or iPhone Air for free (via monthly bill credits) with a trade-in and a qualifying plan. You'll want to read the fine print, but if you're open to switching carriers, don't miss this iPhone deal, available now at T-Mobile.

When the clocks change for Daylight Saving Time, and why we do it at all

The clocks on our smartphones do something bizarre twice a year: One day in the spring, they jump ahead an hour, and our alarms go off an hour sooner. We wake up bleary-eyed and confused until we remember what just happened. Afterward, "Daylight Saving Time" becomes the norm for about eight months (And yes, it's called "Daylight Saving" not "Daylight Savings." I don't make the rules). Then, in the fall, the opposite happens. Our clocks set themselves back an hour, and we wake up refreshed, if a little uneasy.  Mild chaos ensues at both annual clock changes. What feels like an abrupt and drastic lengthening or shortening of the day causes time itself to seem fictional. Babies and dogs demand that their old sleep and feeding habits remain unchanged. And more consequential effects — for better or worse — may be involved as well (more on which in a minute). Changing our clocks is an all-out attack on our perception of time as an immutable law of ...

The Shortcut AI Excel agent could one-shot spreadsheet jobs. Heres how to try it.

There's a new AI agent on the block for people who spend their waking hours inside spreadsheets. Navigate to Shortcut AI's website , and you'll find a page that looks almost exactly like an empty Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. The main difference is a sidebar chatbot that can be tasked with taking on the tedious legwork of building, say, complex financial models or competitive analyses. Because Shortcut is agentic , meaning it can handle multi-step tasks on the user's behalf, the tool can do more than just generate Excel formulas or analyze spreadsheet data. In a demo on X, Nico Christie, founder and CEO of the Shortcut AI agent, showed how the tool swapped out the data from a Microsoft distributed cash flow analysis (DCF) for Google data by looking up Google's SEC filings and populating the data in the same template. This Tweet is currently unavailable. It might be loading or has been removed. Shortcut launched on Monday with a rather ominous tagline: "Try...

The devices also pack 12GB of RAM apiece. Shiba is said to feature a screen with a resolution of 2,268 x 1,080 pixels while Husky could be a bit larger at 2,822 x 1,344 pixels. Given the amount of RAM, however, both would likely qualify as premium devices. from TechSpot https://ift.tt/cefMDJW via
