Disney+ is hiking its prices again. Heres how much it will cost.

Disney+ is increasing its prices for several of its bundles and standalone plans, with price changes going into effect Oct. 21.

The announcement comes at a tumultuous time for Disney, which faced criticism for its Sept. 17 suspension of Jimmy Kimmel Live! over Kimmel's comments about far-right commentator Charlie Kirk's killer. The backlash led users to cancel their Disney+ and Hulu accounts in order to boycott Disney. On Sept. 22, Disney announced that Kimmel would return to air Sept. 23.

Disney+'s price hikes have become a yearly tradition, with the streaming service increasing prices in Dec. of 2022, and Oct. of 2023 and 2024. How much will Disney+ cost going forward? Let's break it down.

How much will Disney+ standalone plans cost after price increases?

Both of Disney+'s standalone plans will be getting more expensive come Oct. 21. The ad-supported Disney+ plan will increase by $2 to cost $11.99 per month, while Disney+ premium will increase by $3 to cost $18.99 per month. Annually, Disney+ premium will increase from $159.99 per year to $189.99 per year.

How do Disney+'s new prices compare to other streaming services?

The shift makes Disney+'s ad-supported tier the most expensive across the major streaming services. Netflix, Peacock, and Paramount+'s all cost $7.99 per month, while HBO Max's costs $9.99 per month. A Prime Video subscription by itself without an Amazon Prime membership costs $8.99 per month. Hulu will also be increasing its prices on Oct. 21, with its ad-supported tier costing the same amount as Disney+'s: $11.99.

The new ad-free tier is also the most expensive of the major streaming services, surpassing Netflix ($17.99), Paramount+ ($12.99), HBO Max ($16.99), Peacock ($10.99), and Prime Video ($11.98). Hulu's ad-free tier already costs $18.99, and it will not be increasing.

How much will Disney+ bundles cost after price increases?

Disney+'s many bundle plans are also getting hit by price increases. The ad-supported Hulu and Disney+ bundle will go from $10.99 per month to $12.99 per month. The premium Hulu and Disney+ bundle will remain the same, still costing $19.99 per month.

Both the ad-supported and select premium versions of the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Select bundles will be getting pricier. The ad-supported bundle will go from $16.99 to $19.99, while the premium bundle (which still has ads for ESPN) will go from $26.99 to $29.99.

Users will no longer be able to purchase or switch into the Disney+ Premium, Hulu, ESPN Select Bundle, which comes with ads for both Hulu and ESPN Select, but not for Disney+. However, existing users can keep their ongoing plan as long as they do not change it. That plan's price will increase from $21.99 per month to $24.99 per month.

Neither the ad-supported nor premium versions of the Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Unlimited bundle will be impacted by the price hikes. The ad-supported tier remains at $35.99 per month, while the premium version remains at $44.99 per month.

Disney+'s bundle with Hulu and HBO Max will also be impacted. The ad-supported tier will increase from $16.99 per month to $19.99 per month, while the ad-free bundle will increase from $29.99 per month to $32.99 per month.

When the clocks change for Daylight Saving Time, and why we do it at all

The clocks on our smartphones do something bizarre twice a year: One day in the spring, they jump ahead an hour, and our alarms go off an hour sooner. We wake up bleary-eyed and confused until we remember what just happened. Afterward, "Daylight Saving Time" becomes the norm for about eight months (And yes, it's called "Daylight Saving" not "Daylight Savings." I don't make the rules). Then, in the fall, the opposite happens. Our clocks set themselves back an hour, and we wake up refreshed, if a little uneasy.  Mild chaos ensues at both annual clock changes. What feels like an abrupt and drastic lengthening or shortening of the day causes time itself to seem fictional. Babies and dogs demand that their old sleep and feeding habits remain unchanged. And more consequential effects — for better or worse — may be involved as well (more on which in a minute). Changing our clocks is an all-out attack on our perception of time as an immutable law of ...
