The Apple Watch Ultra 2 is the best of the best that Apple has to offer in terms of smartwatches. But its exorbitant pricing means it's not exactly accessible to everyone who could benefit from one. If you can't justify a $700+ purchase to track your workouts and utilize health-tracking features, there are plenty of other great smartwatch options out there. But if you're deadset on getting an Apple Watch, the original Apple Watch Ultra is still a viable workout partner.

As of Feb. 28, you can get a refurbished Apple Watch Ultra for $502.99 at Woot!, which is $70 off its current price of $575.04 at Amazon. That's a discount of 17%. You can choose between three watch band options, all with a titanium case: Midnight Ocean, White Ocean, and Yellow Ocean. These models are graded A, which means they've been guaranteed to have "minimal cosmetic damage" when you receive them. Batteries are tested to charge up to a minimum of 85%.

This model is still going strong and it's a great companion for anyone who's athletic and enjoys spending time staying active. Its 36-hour battery life is a prime reason to grab one, but its 49mm titanium case that has 100m of water resistance is another as the seasons change and we start thinking about hitting the pool and the beach again.

The Apple Watch Ultra also originally introduced the biggest, brightest display seen on an Apple Watch. Along with that, you get plenty of features: heart rate tracking; a built-in GPS and compass; distance, route, and pace information for runs; and so much more.

If you're still waiting on a significant drop in price for the Apple Watch Ultra 2, this is a great, much less expensive alternative.

When the clocks change for Daylight Saving Time, and why we do it at all

The clocks on our smartphones do something bizarre twice a year: One day in the spring, they jump ahead an hour, and our alarms go off an hour sooner. We wake up bleary-eyed and confused until we remember what just happened. Afterward, "Daylight Saving Time" becomes the norm for about eight months (And yes, it's called "Daylight Saving" not "Daylight Savings." I don't make the rules). Then, in the fall, the opposite happens. Our clocks set themselves back an hour, and we wake up refreshed, if a little uneasy.  Mild chaos ensues at both annual clock changes. What feels like an abrupt and drastic lengthening or shortening of the day causes time itself to seem fictional. Babies and dogs demand that their old sleep and feeding habits remain unchanged. And more consequential effects — for better or worse — may be involved as well (more on which in a minute). Changing our clocks is an all-out attack on our perception of time as an immutable law of ...
