Lowe's finally hopped aboard the Apple Pay bandwagon.
According to MacRumors, the home improvement store allowed customers to use Apple Pay via its website and app, but for the first time, Lowe's patrons can use the contactless payment feature inside its retail stores.
Lowe's finally supports Apple Pay
Reddit is filled complaints about Lowe's lack of Apple Pay support. In one thread, a Redditor claimed that Lowe's was slow to accept Apple Pay because "the card machines would need to be upgraded," adding it would set the retailer back $400 per unit.
However, Redditors waved the excuse away. "I guarantee the average Lowe's store loses far more than $400 in sales every day from people who don’t have their wallet on their person," RelevantMetaUsername said.
"Yep! Today I had a cart full of stuff," AlgaeEater chimed in. "Went to use tap pay.. they didn't have it. So they lost a huge sale."
Well, they needn't shake their fists anymore. The home improvement store now accepts Apple Pay. According to MacRumors, Apple Pay support began rolling out on Dec. 20, just in time for the holidays.
Interestingly, Lowe's isn't the only popular megastore that has been operating sans Apple Pay. Walmart also doesn't support Apple Pay. However, it's worth noting that it has its own mobile-payment method called Walmart Pay. As such, I wouldn't hold my breath for Apple Pay acceptance at Walmart any time soon.
