Apple and OpenAI are heading to court. On Friday, July 10, Apple sued OpenAI, the artificial intelligence company led by CEO Sam Altman , and two former Apple employees, accusing the ChatGPT maker of obtaining confidential Apple information to help build its own consumer hardware. The lawsuit names OpenAI’s commercial and nonprofit entities, its hardware company io Products, OpenAI Chief Hardware Officer Tang Yew Tan, and former Apple engineer Chang Liu. It was filed in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California. “This case is about Apple’s former employees stealing Apple’s trade secrets for the benefit of OpenAI,” Apple said in the complaint.
