Elon Musk's 25-year obsession with 'X' explains what he did to Twitter

Elon Musk put so much of his fortune into X.com, he had a mere $4 million left in all the world. This wasn't the 21st century X.com . This was 1999, the height of the dotcom boom. Musk had just sold his first startup, a city guide website called Zip2 — PC maker Compaq wanted it for its search engine. Musk made $22 million on the deal. He did not play it safe with his winnings. The 28-year-old South African immigrant splurged $18 million on building a rather less modest idea. X.com was to be an online hub for every kind of financial transaction in the world.  What did "X" have to do with finance? When people think X, Musk insisted, they think of treasure. They think "X marks the spot." Musk never wavered in this belief, not even when shown mounds of evidence that what most people really think of when they see "X.com" is... porn . His blind love led to a boardroom coup that overthrew him as CEO, and eventually ousted the X name — replaced by PayPal. ...

New congressional bill addresses food insecurity on the picket line

Members of the U.S. Senate are supporting the pro-labor movement sweeping across the nation, introducing legislation that could provide needed resources to striking workers. The Food Secure Strikers Act of 2023 , introduced by Sen. John Fetterman of Pennsylvania on July 27, repeals limitations on the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) that prevent many striking employees from claiming nutrition assistance, and safeguards their eligibility in the future. Should it pass, it would also protect public sector workers who are fired for striking from being "considered to have voluntarily quit" for SNAP eligibility purposes, and clarify that any income-eligible household can receive SNAP benefits regardless of if a member of that household is involved in a strike. Importantly, the legislation would apply to all workers on strike, not just union members. Under current U.S. law, employees on strike can only receive SNAP food benefits if they were already deem...

'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem' mid-credits scene explained

You've come. You've turtled. You've got questions about that mid-credits sequence. We're here to help. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem follows the coming-of-age adventure of turtle-human hybrids, Donatello (Micah Abbey), Raphael (Brady Noon), Leonardo (Nicolas Cantu), and Michelangelo (Shamon Brown Jr.).  who dream above all else of going to high school and being cool. After a fateful meeting with teen reporter April O'Neil (Ayo Edebiri), the boys decide they'll win over both the local New York City high schoolers and the whole metro area — if only they could heroically capture the notorious villain Superfly, who's been pulling off heists and knocking off local criminals. If they can do what the NYPD — and the super shady Techno Cosmic Research Institute (TCRI) — cannot, not only are they sure to be beloved, but the school will likely un-cancel prom! (And maybe Leo can go with his newly minted crush, April?) What happened in the Teenage Mut...
