Justice Department convicts five men for running a huge illegal streaming service

Five men are going to spend time in prison for running a streaming service with more content than the heavy-hitters. Well, technically, they're going to prison because all of that content was stolen in the first place. The U.S. Department of Justice announced on Thursday that five men had been convicted on various charges related to Jetflicks, an illegitimate streaming service that had been running since at least 2007. Jared Jaurequi, Peter Huber, Douglas Courson, Kristopher Dallman, and Felipe Garcia had all been involved with Jetflicks in some capacity, and all will serve time, though how much is uncertain at this juncture. SEE ALSO: The best Netflix movies of 2024 now streaming The way Jetflicks worked was that some kind of sophisticated program would dig through piracy websites for stolen episodes of TV, which would then be added to the service. In all, more than 183,000 TV episodes graced Jetflicks, which the DOJ claims is "larger than the combined catalogues of N

Google is working on generative AI soundtracks and dialogue for videos

Everyone knows sound is a critical component to most films and videos. After all, even when films were silent, there was still a musical accompanist letting the audience know how to feel. This natural law remains the same for the new crop of generative AI videos, which emerge eerily silent . That's part of why Google has been working on "video-to-audio" technology (V2A) which "makes synchronized audiovisual generation possible." On Monday, Google's AI lab, DeepMind, shared progress on generating such audio including soundtracks and dialogue that automatically match up with AI-generated videos. Google has been hard at work developing multimodal generative AI technology to compete with rivals. OpenAI has its AI video generator Sora (yet to be publicly released) and GPT-4o , which creates AI voice responses. Companies like Meta and Suno have been exploring AI-generated audio and music, but pairing audio with video is relatively new. ElevenLabs has a si

There aren't any standout Walmart+ Week headphone deals so far

Walmart+ Week kicked off June 17, in theory ushering in the summer savings season, but we have yet to see many standout product deals. In years past, this sale served as the counter to Amazon's Prime Day (happening sometime in July this year), bringing deals on a wide array of products, from TVs to robot vacuums and headphones. Instead, day one of the sale started with two deals on random earbud budget brands, along with a few robot vacuum deals, and over 20 deals on WWE figurines. To put it bluntly, the deals we've seen so far aren't worth using your 30-day free trial sign up to look at. If you've been looking for a pair of headphones to buy, this isn't the sale for you. Did you catch this prophecy in 'House of the Dragon' Season 2, episode 1?

The ending of House of the Dragon 's Season 2 premiere features one of the most heinous things to ever happen on the series, Game of Thrones included. In a sequence already infamous to readers of George R.R. Martin's Fire & Blood , Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) hopes to avenge the death of Rhaenyra's (Emma D'Arcy) son Lucerys (Elliot Grihault) by claiming "a son for a son." He enlists the help of two unlikely assassins: a member of the Gold Cloaks (Sam C. Wilson) and a ratcatcher (Mark Stobbart). We never learn their names, but history will remember them as Blood and Cheese. 'House of the Dragon' Season 2's Targaryen family tree: How everyone connects

A new season of House of the Dragon means we're back in the trenches of parsing the Targaryen family tree. That process can be tough for a number of reasons: the sheer number of characters, their similar names (seriously, does George R.R. Martin get paid by the "ae"?), and of course, all that incest. So if you've ever asked yourself the question "Who is that?" or "How are they related again?," you've come to the right place. Cybertruck buyers are reporting delivery delays due to windshield wiper issue

You're not going to believe it but folks who bought a Tesla Cybertruck are reportedly running into problems with the purchase. OK, well actually, you might believe it, considering Elon Musk's Minecraft-esque truck has had quite a few issues since it began shipping out last year. Tesla had to cancel production and eventually order a recall of the Cybertruck because it had an issue where the accelerator pedal would get stuck, effectively flooring the vehicle by accident. It has a front trunk that could seemingly slice off your finger at a moment's notice. Plus, a detailed Reuters investigation showed a whole host of big issues, including wheels flying off and broken axles on nearly new cars. Now we can apparently add defective windshield wipers to the list of problems. SEE ALSO: The Cybertruck's failure is now complete Cybertruck buyers had apparently begun reporting delays in delivery of their purchase due to an issue with the truck's windshield wipers.
